Strömeng is located in the far north of Norway, and the knives reflect the Saami (Laplander) culture. The blades are thin for efficient slicing, and wide to retain strength. They are all-purpose knives rather than woodworking knives. The handles are typical of those used in the far North. They provide a solid grip for the draw strokes that are favored where the hands are often gloved, or stiff with cold. The wide flat pommel allows the use of the second hand to apply force to the point. The sheaths take almost the entire handle, which is a reflection of how serious a lost leuku can be in the wilderness. In the larger sizes they combine the functions of camp knife and machete, and are used for everything from building shelters and gathering firewood, to butchering reindeer. The blades are relatively thin, and the knives are quite light for their size. Blades are hardened to RC 59.

#KS9; The 9" Strömeng leuku is the largest in the series. It has a carbon steel blade 9" long, 1 5/8" wide, and .117" thick. The handle is 4 3/4" long, and generously sized. $137
#KS9OF; The "Old Fashioned" is a more traditional version with a blackened carbon steel blade and tar stained handle. It has a carbon steel blade 9" long, 1 5/8" wide, and .117" thick. The handle is 4 3/4" long, and generously sized. $145
#KS8; The 8" Strömeng leuku has a carbon steel blade 8" long, 1 9/16" wide, and .110" thick. The handle is 4 5/8" long, and generously sized. $133
#KS8OF; The 8" Old Fashioned Strömeng leuku is a more traditional version with a blackened carbon steel blade and tar stained handle. Again, it has a carbon steel blade 8" long, 1 9/16" wide, and .110" thick. The handle is 4 5/8" long, and generously sized . $142
#KS8F; The 8" Strömeng leuku with a finger guard was designed for the Norwegian military. It features a large brass finger guard to keep the hand off the blade if the knife is used for thrusting. Again, it has a blackened carbon steel blade 8" long, 1 9/16" wide, and .110" thick. The handle is 4 5/8" long, and generously sized. The sheath is different from the others. Because of the guard it uses a keeper strap secured by velcro to retain the knife. The wide strap is located just above the guard. So even if comes unfastened it tends to retain the knife until deliberately pushed aside. Instead of the usual thong hanger it has belt slots to keep the sheath from swinging about. This facilitates a one handed draw. $161
#KS7; The 7" Strömeng leuku has a carbon steel blade just over 7" long, 1 1/2" wide, and .110" thick. The handle is 4 5/8" long, and generously sized, but a bit smaller in diameter than the others. It's still a handful. $130
#KS7OF; The 7" Old Fashioned Strömeng leuku is a more traditional version with a blackened carbon steel blade and tar stained handle. Again, the carbon steel blade is just over 7" long, 1 1/2" wide, and .110" thick. The handle is 4 5/8" long, and generously sized, but a bit smaller in diameter than the others. $138
#KS5; The 5" Strömeng leuku has a stainless blade just over 5" long, 1 1/8" wide,
and .072" thick. The handle is 4 1/4" long, and a bit smaller in diameter than the others.
It's still a handful compared to the usual puukko however. $99 Out of stock
#KS5F; Here's a variation of the 5" Strömeng leuku with a finger guard. It would be useful for hunters who reach into the body cavity when cleaning big game. Without a guard, if you strike a rib with the point, the knife can slide back in your hand with nasty results. It might also be a good starting knife for younger users. Like the military version above, the sheath has a keeper strap and belt slots. The stainless blade is just over 5" long, 1 1/8" wide, and .072" thick. The handle is 4 1/4" long, and a bit smaller in diameter than the others. It's still a handful compared to the usual puukko however. The knife and sheath weigh just over 6 ounces. $129
